Researchy

CoIL’s research interest is quite broad; it is driven by a fundamental curiosity about the dynamic interplay of emergent processes in and across four domains of innovation:

  • SOCIAL innovation

  • BUSINESS innovation

  • KNOWLEDGE innovation

  • TECHNICAL innovation

We believe when individuals and organizations understand and appreciate better the huge evolutionary forces at play in the current metasystem transition, they will be able to use better the tailwind of those forces for adding velocity to their innovation projects. The specific questions that we worked on in the past 20 years, and have an ongoing interest in, are inspired by that evolutionary perspective. They include:

  • Can intelligent virtual communities be designed for emergence of meaning, social and economic value?

  • Can we grow a symbiotic human/machine intelligence, based on the synergy of recent scientific and technological breakthroughs combined with the human qualities of creativity, consciousness and compassion? In organizations? At a global scale?

  • How to climb the "knowledge -> intelligence -> wisdom" value chain , if we are an individual or a corporation?

  • How can value webs and constellations contribute to the emergence of a collective intelligence capable to match increasing complexity?

  • How to sustain a healthy and vibrant knowledge ecosystem, and optimize it for the augmentation of intelligence, individual and collective?

  • What can we learn from biological intelligence that will usefully inform organizational and social evolution?

  • If adequate level of technology R&D resources could be directed to turbocharge business, social, and knowledge innovation, what development targets would yield the highest leverage for the full spectrum of innovation domains?

  • How to decrease obstacles and increase trust and connectivity, for combining social capital of individuals, communities, and organizations?

  • What are the best systems, tools, and methods for accelerating the development of collaborative advantage, by building swift trust , in and among virtual communities?

  • What are the implications of the "open source" movement for the merger of play ethic and work ethic in large organizations?
