We want new ways of working together that are worthy of the life we invest in each day. The "we" is the growing number of free agents discovering that there's no reason to put up with the old ways of organizing work, which have been wasting so much talent, by putting the spirit and creativity of armies of employees into the straightjacket of "jobs."

This site is an invitation to change champions and other evolutionary agents who want to become more effective, by drawing on the new capacities that emerge when we connect the unique gifts of each movement referenced here.

Community Intelligence Labs stands for the cross-fertilization of ideas and inspirations among all transformational movements. We resonate with the spirit and work of the following groups and organizations as engines of transformation, and let them speak for themselves.

Global Peace and Security News

Chaordic Alliance

"The Chaordic Alliance works to develop, disseminate and implement new concepts of organization which more equitably distribute power and wealth, release human ingenuity, and are more compatible with the biosphere."

Cluetrain Manifesto

"If you only have time for one clue this year, this is the one to get... we are not seats or eyeballs or end users or consumers. We are human beings - and our reach exceeds your grasp. Deal with it."

"Networked markets are beginning to self-organize faster than the companies that have traditionally served them. Thanks to the web, markets are becoming better informed, smarter, and more demanding of qualities missing from most business organizations."

Fast Company

"Fast Company Magazine was founded on a single premise: a global revolution was changing business, and business was changing the world. Discarding the old rules of business, Fast Company set to chronicle how changing companies create and compete, to highlight new business practices, and to showcase the teams and individuals who are inventing the future and reinventing business."

"When in the course of economic events, it becomes manifest that traditional work arrangements stifle innovation, reward timidity, devolve into nothingness, and offer at best a perilous prosperity, it becomes necessary for citizens of conscience and talent to declare their independence."

Free Agent Nation

There's a new movement in the land. From coast to coast, in communities large and small, citizens are declaring their independence and drafting a new bill of rights. Meet some of the 25 million residents of Free Agent, USA.

Long Boom

"The Long Boom is a positive meme about a better future. It's a contagious idea about the immense opportunity of our historical era, the 40 years from 1980 to 2020. It's a bold vision of how to harness the vast potential of our new technologies and new economy and make a better world."

Open Source

"Open-source software is an idea whose time has finally come. For twenty years it has been building momentum in the technical cultures that built the Internet and the World Wide Web. Now it's breaking out into the commercial world, and that's changing all the rules. Are you ready?"

Simplicity

The following simple quotes were pulled from Simplicity: The New Competitive Advantage in a World of More,Better, Faster by Bill Jensen.

  • The hardest work is figuring out what to do in a world of infinite choices.
  • Simplicity is power. The power to do less of what doesn't matter and more of what does.
  • Corporate America is investing heavily in integrated planning and coordination. But it's chintzy when it comes to investing in human nature.
  • Every 1100 days your ability to transform information into work becomes twice as important.

Work Matters!

"Start a movement?

Yes, we plan to do just that. We are sick and tired of whining about lousy bosses. (Or companies.) It is, as we see it, our life. To live or lose. To form or allow to be formed. The message in a nutshell:

  • 1) You, me, all of us, must turn ourselves into distinctive one-person Brands;
  • 2) the professional service firm—with its obsession on clients and projects—must be the new organizational model;
  • 3) tasks must be turned into WOW! Projects."
