What Is a Knowledge Ecosystem

A knowledge ecosystem (KES) is a self-organizing system of information, inspiration and insights, human and organizational capabilities; that interact and cross-fertilize - feeding off and growing out of each other.

Knowledge ecosystems are comprised of an integrated triple network
 - a PEOPLE network of conversations that is producing
a KNOWLEDGE network of ideas, information, and inspiration,
supported by a TECHNOLOGY network of
websites, forums and other infrastructure elements -
that generate social and commercial VALUE to their members and sponsors.

A KES is a learning and innovation community of conversations
richly hyperlinked with, feeding, and fed by
the community's shared, interactive knowledge repository
of who, what, how, why, when, and patterns connecting them.

Large KES's are supported by a team of learning facilitators, information architects, web developers, and cybrarians. In smaller KES's some of these functions are carried out by the same professional.
